My role within Changing Minds Kent is not set in stone and we haven’t come up with a cheesy title just yet to add onto the ‘Director’. I see my role as coming up with ideas around potential services we could offer and supporting the rest of the team to develop our visions and dreams for the future. Also, I enjoy linking with local business’ and promoting the services we offer to bring money and profit in to ensure Changing Minds can use it on the people who most need it. We call this – Profit to People and is the essence of CIC’s. I am passionate about ensuring the way our services and organisation looks, feels ( let’s hope you like this website! ) and is delivered in the belief it will encourage anyone who comes across Changing Minds to buy into what we are trying to achieve. I work alongside the other board members to ensure Changing Minds works towards our goals and delivers on its priorities. We are all very proud of what we have achieved so far but we understand there is a long (but exciting) road ahead.
Why mental health & wellbeing matters to me:
A strong interest in the human mind and human behaviours led me to complete an A level and Degree in Psychology. Since then I have worked within health and social care for over 15 years and within the mental health sector for around 9 years. I have seen ‘Mental Health’ come from a place where it was shoved under the carpet to somewhere now it is being spoken about more openly, which is amazing. However, we need to start challenging and changing behaviours. I have seen friends, colleagues and people who use our services recognise their mental health problems but ignore the need to make fundamental changes to their lives to improve their health and wellbeing. An idol of mine once said “do what you have always done, get what you have always got”.
Interests:
Apart from mental health? Here come the clichés… Spending time with my young family and friends, keeping physically active, Golf, Skiing and listening to music. Recently, I have started the process of getting a motorbike license, much to my families and friends concern and amusement. Apparently, I am going to hurt myself or I’m in the midst of a mid-life crisis. Not sure which is worse?!
Dreams & Aspirations:
Apart from making Changing Minds a huge success and helping millions of people to improve their health and wellbeing? Get a full motorbike licence and spend weeks riding around the Alps. My wife and I would like to take our children on a tour around the national parks of California and I would love to visit and Ski Canada.
